Do you have a passion for fashion? Are you always modifying and designing your own clothes? Do you believe that the fashion industry can be transformed? Then this is the school for you! This brand-new school in YWAM, the School of Fashion and Design in Missions, aims to mold and equip each student to be able to disciple and influence with values and principles through fashion and through design, in this area, in society and in the nations. You will learn the tricks of the trade in classes like Sewing, Pattern-Making, Drawing, as well as receive teachings in Trend Analysis, Culture Analysis, History of Fashion, Fashion and Design, Fashion in Missions, Identity, Exclusive vs. Original, Developing Creativity, Stage Wardrobe, and so much more!
The YWAM base in the city of Corrientes, in northern Argentina, has been working to impact and transform the world of fashion since 2008, when the base’s art ministry participated in their very first fashion show, held by the municipal government, with three unique clothing designs inspired by the nations. After that first fashion show, the fashion bug had bitten, and the art ministry has now made it an annual event to hold their own fashion show, inviting local fashion designers and icons and reaching middle to high-class society with artistic performances, exclusive and trendy clothing designs, and the powerful message of the Gospel. Currently, the YWAM Corrientes base HAS two “house-brands”, RaceFusion and Kali, as well as a jewelry brand called African Tango.
The art ministry and fashion school’s mission is to restore the basic values that are lost or absent in today's society. We see the result of their absence in the artistic mediums and fashion world in cases such as bulimia, anorexia, homosexuality, unrealistic role-models, discrimination (to name a few) and we feel that it is our duty and commitment to be an active part in changing this.
The School of Fashion and Design in Missions 2012 will start on June 4 and the theory phase of the school lasts 3 months. There are several practical assignments throughout the three months, with a special final project in the form of a fashion show, complete with catwalk, lights and models, to showcase your inspired and original designs.
You can also be part of this exciting new mission field through your donations. In order to have a successful start to the school, the following items are needed: • 5 Sewing machines (Singer or other brand for home-use, not industrial) • 3 overlock sewing machines • 5 dressmaker dolls • Fabric, thread, needles, etc.
